In this article, you will find 11 tricks with the reaction road map in addition to the tricks for aromatic conversion reactions for the conversion in organic chemistry for class 12 board exams.

Conversion in Organic Chemistry

What is conversion reaction?

In conversion reactions, we have to convert one organic compound to another organic compound. It occurs in a single step or in multiple steps.

Always try to do conversions in not more than 3 steps. If in some conversions, more than 3 steps are required then it is ok to do so.

What to remember to the conversion in organic chemistry?

The basic organic reactions are the building blocks for the conversion in organic chemistry. You have to remember the basic organic reactions to do conversion in organic chemistry, which includes:

  • Name Reactions
  • Methods of Preparation
  • Chemical properties

You should focus on these three to do conversions. Follow the Class 12 NCERT Part-2 for it.

Points to remember for organic conversion

  • You have to practice as many questions as possible.
  • You have to identify which kind of organic compound is given in question and think about the basic reaction of that compound.
  • Think backward. Try to think from the final product. How is the final product produced? If there are many methods, which one is the best method?
  • You should have a good knowledge and memory about organic compounds, reagents and reactions.

Reaction Road Map of Organic Chemistry Conversion

Suppose a question is given to convert alkane to an amide. Check the road map provided below. You need to go through the path:

Alkane → Alkyl halide → Alcohol (primary) → Carboxylic acid → Amide.

In this way, you have to follow the path of conversion as given in map.
